This is a sacred version that can ONLY be played with traditional wooden sticks HANDCRAFTED by a respected stickmaker. Plastic sticks and metal shafts are not allowed. There is nothing spiritual about synthetically made factory sticks despite the performance increase in modern stick technology.
Each tribe's version varies based on the type of stick, type of ball, and specific fine motor movements.
There is no off sides, no roster limits. Extra padding is not allowed. Full contact checking is allowed.
Goals are scored by hitting a ceremonial wooden pole in the ground or a tree trunk.
There is no clock. Game ends once one side reaches a specific number of goals agreed to before the game begins.
This version of lacrosse inspired the format, layout and development of other sports such as basketball, soccer, hockey and modern lacrosse.
